The FOG readability formula is widely used in the health care industry and throughout
the entire business community.
The FOG formula takes into consideration (1) the total number of words, (2) the
number of words of three or more syllables, as well as (3) the total number of sentences.
Since FOG readability scoring aims for 90% comprehension, except for the
SMOG readabiity formula FOG grade level scores are inclined to be higher than the other
formulas included in
Readability Calculations and
Readability PLUS.
As applied in industry and business, many reading experts feel that no technical
material should score higher than grade level 14, no business material higher than grade
level 12, and no clerical material higher than grade level 8.
Both
Readability Calculations and
Readability PLUS display this formulas scoring results on a screen which
may contain other formula results as well.
